Spring is just around the corner, bringing warmer weather, blue skies, blooming flowers and April showers.

For many, spring is a time for family and fun; schools are out for a week and many have spring break travel plans. For others, spring is the time to revamp and refresh after the long, cold winter months. No matter what type of spring plans you have, Yale’s favorite new home décor trends can relieve any dreary winter woes that are sticking with you.

  1. Mixed Metals
2018 is the year of mixing your metals, and it’s out with the old and in with the classics: Rose gold is now a color of the past and brass and copper are back. Stainless steel and other metals have been popular in the kitchen for some time, but now homeowners want to see different metals throughout the house, whether it’s their fixtures, décor, cookware or tableware. For example, brass cabinet handles pair with copper cookware in the kitchen, or copper sink faucets pair with metal-lined mirrors in the bathroom.
  2. Light Floors
Floor trends are quickly moving toward a lighter color palette. These lighter color palettes, such as maple or hickory woods or white tiles, brighten up any interior space. If maple or hickory woods are not light enough, many home improvement stores offer light engineered hardwood flooring or you can take matters into your own hands and DIY whitewash your current wood floors. As an added bonus, lighter floors help hide imperfections!
  3. Rustic Accents
Shabby chic is in and taking over the previous modern trend. A rustic look can be achieved with simple accents, such as a reclaimed wood wall, antique-style appliances or furniture, or some rustic accent pieces like a reclaimed wood mirror or a wine-barrel bar. Stikwood is a simple rustic solution, with peel and stick reclaimed wood for your walls to make a beautiful and unique statement.
  4. Vibrant Accent Colors
Adding a vibrant accent color is a great way to spice up a room and give it some personality. This year, rich and vibrant colors are making their way into homes on walls, furniture and fixtures. In fact, Sherwin Williams’ color of the year is an intense blue-green (Oceanside SW 6496) and Pantone’s color of the year is ultra violet (18-3838). While millennial pink was the color of 2017, Gen-Z yellow is expected to replace it, especially after it was the color of the widely popular dress in Beyoncé’s ‘Hold Up.’ Sprinkle these rich colors throughout your home to add a bold, lush look using velvet furniture or bright tables.
  5. Texture, Texture, Texture!
Textured patterns make a statement in homes, whether it be with wallpaper, furniture or artwork. Textured additions are an easy way to add personality to a home. Think about adding some textured wallpaper, like these geometric shapes, or a flower-printed chair. For something simpler, consider these tassel-covered throw pillows or a faux fur throw blanket.

We hope these ideas help you freshen up your home and prepare you for the fun months ahead. Happy decorating!
