Yale Selected As Exclusive In-Store Lock For Staples Connect

NEW HAVEN, CT – September 25, 2013 – Yale has been chosen by Staples to be the exclusive in-store provider of locks for the retailer’s new connected home initiative, Staples Connect.

Staples Connect, which was announced this week, consists of a multiplatform app and a universal hub that allows multiple devices to communicate with each other. Staples Connect users can, for example, lock and unlock doors from a smartphone, tablet or PC from virtually anywhere in the world, schedule users or create customized entry scenes for family members, neighbors and service providers, and even automatically receive an alert when a child has arrived home from school.

Staples Connect will be available in November in a select number of Staples stores, where Yale Real Living™ intelligent touchscreen and push button locks will be the only compatible locks offered. Yale locks will also be available for Staples Connect on the retailer’s website.

“We’re extremely pleased that Staples chose Yale to provide locks for their innovative new home and office automation system, and especially pleased that Yale will be the only lock offered in-store,” said Jason Williams, General Manager of Yale Residential. “As the world’s largest office products company and second largest internet retailer, Staples is poised to be a key player in this field, and we’re thrilled to be among their partners.”

"Partnering with Yale was a natural choice for Staples, as the core of the Staples Connect platform is focused on providing consumers and small businesses with access to the most trusted brands in the home automation space,” said Peter Gerstberger, Senior Category Merchant, Staples. “When looking to pair a door lock company with Staples Connect, we wanted a sleek product offering containing advanced features and easy installation, making Yale locks a must have for Staples."

Staples Connect is a fully integrated system that allows devices from leading brands to work together, and so eliminates the need to use multiple, brand-specific apps.  A single app controls every device, and consumers are free to choose from among leading trusted brands, with no monthly fee. Consumers can select a low cost starter kit or purchase specific products and services. The system can easily be expanded, allowing consumers to add devices and services to meet changing needs.
