Yale Smart Keypad 2 – Fingerprint Firmware v1.1.2
We’re excited to announce the release of Firmware v1.1.2 for the Yale Smart Keypad 2, bringing two great new features designed to give you even more control and flexibility.
This article outlines key details about the v1.1.2 update for the Yale Smart Keypad 2 – Fingerprint. iOS users should pay special attention, as the update requires manual action to ensure proper installation.
Privacy Mode (also known as Shabbat Mode in Israel)
Take full control of your keypad experience with Privacy Mode, which allows you to temporarily disable all keypad functionality directly from the Yale Home app. This feature offers a simple and convenient option for managing access.
Motion Sensor Control
You now have the ability to enable or disable the motion sensor via the app.
- When disabled, the keypad will only wake when physically touched.
- This can help extend battery life, especially in busy or high-traffic areas.
It’s a smart way to optimize performance based on your environment.
Important Note for iOS Users
Once your Keypad has received the update, to enjoy these new features on iOS, you’ll need to delete and reinstall the Yale Home app.
This is due to how iOS stores device capabilities locally, which may prevent automatic updates to feature sets.
We recommend doing this at your earliest convenience to unlock the full potential of your Smart Keypad 2.
During the onboarding process of the Yale Smart Keypad 2, you are given the option to set a personal Entry Code, you then have the option to change the personal entry code at a later date via the Yale Home App.
Below is a guide to find, update, and use your personal Entry Code.
To find your Personal Entry Code:
- Open up the Yale Home App
- From the bottom of the dashboard, select Access.
- Select yourself from the guest list to open the My Access menu.
Your personal entry code(s) appears below the associated lock. Depending on the settings on the lock, it may be blanked out as a security precaution. If this is the case you will need to authenticate with your phones passcode/biometrics to view the code. If you want to update an existing personal entry code, follow the steps above, then:
- Select the Entry Code tab which will open the Entry Code management menu.
- Press Manage Entry Code
- Enter a new code in the Entry Code field (Entry codes need to be between 4 and 8 digits and a user may have up to 220 entry codes on a lock.)
- Select save changes
To use your Personal Entry Code
- Enter your personal entry code on the keypad
- Press the tick button on the keypad
- The keypad lights will flash Green when the lock operation has been completed. (Note - If you have enabled keypad sounds within the Yale Home App settings menu, the keypad will also bleep when the lock operation has completed)
Adding a personal entry code for a keypad only access:
Follow the steps below to give a Guest keypad access using only an Entry Code:
- Select Access from the Yale Home App dashboard, and then Invite.
- Select Entry Code Only.
- From here you have the option to invite a Guest from your phone's existing contacts list, or manually enter a Guest's name.
- Select continue, on the next page you will see a list of locks to which you can assign an Entry Code.
- Tap Entry Code to set up a new code for your Guest.
- Select the access schedule for the Entry Code, this can be Always, Recurring, or Temporary.
- Select Save Entry Code (Note you also have the option to select Text Code to Guest at the same time)
- Congratulations you have now set up a keypad Access Entry Code, the new Guest's name will appear in your Guest list with a # symbol next to it.
Adding a personal entry code with a Yale Home:
If you want to invite your Guest to the Yale Home App and the keypad, follow the steps below:
- Select Access from the Yale Home App dashboard, and then Invite.
- Select App Access.
- From here you have the option to invite a Guest from your phone's existing contacts list, or manually enter a Guest's mobile number.
- Select continue, on the next page you will see a list of locks for which you can grant App access.
- Here you can select the app access level as a Guest or Owner
- Here you can set the access schedule as Always, Recurring, or Temporary.
- Tap send invite (note the send invite icon varies between operating systems).
- The new Guests will now appear in your guest list.
- Select the new Guest name, this will open the Guests access menu
- Select Entry Code, here you can use the suggested code or enter your own 4 - 8 digit code.
- Select Save Entry Code.
- Congratulations you have now set up Yale Home App access with an Entry Code, the Guest's name will appear in your guest list with a hash symbol next to it.
Lock Owners can delete and update keypad Entry Codes from within the Yale Home.
To make changes to entry codes for specific Guests:
- Select Access from the Yale Home App dashboard.
- Find the Guest entry for the code you wish to make changes to.
- Next, select the entry code, Manage Entry Code.
- Press Deactivate Entry Code to delete the Entry Code.
During the onboarding process of the Yale Smart Keypad 2, you are given the option to register your Fingerprint, if you skip this process you then have the option to register your Fingerprint at a later date via the Yale Home App.
Follow the steps below to register, and use your Personal Fingerprint.
To find the Personal Fingerprint Registration option:
- Open the Yale Home App
- Select Access from the Yale Home App dashboard.
- Select yourself from the guest list to get to My Access.
Your personal Fingerprint option appears below the lock that the keypad is associated to.
- Select the Fingerprint tab.
- From here you can remove a previously registered Fingerprint and register a new Fingerprint.
- Follow the in App process to Register your new Fingerprint.
4. Once you have successfully registered your Fingerprint, a yellow fingerprint icon will appear next to your name in the guest list.
To use your Personal Fingerprint
- Place your registered finger on the Fingerprint sensor on the keypad
- Remove your finger.
- The keypad lights will flash Green when the lock operation has been completed. (Note - If you have enabled keypad sounds within the Yale Home App settings menu, the keypad will also bleep when the lock operation has completed)
During the setup process of the Yale Smart Keypad 2, the owner is given the option to register a guest's fingerprint, if you skip this process you have the option to register a guest's fingerprint at a later date via the Yale Home App.
Note - Only an owner can register a guest's fingerprint, the guest will need to be within accessible range of the keypad in order register their fingerprint when promted via the Yale Home app.
There are two ways to grant a guest fingerprint access, you can set up the guest to have Yale Home App access or you can set up a guest to have Fingerprint Only access without the need for them to set up their own Yale Home account.
How to set up a guest fingerprint with a Yale Home account
- Select Access from the Yale Home App dashboard.
- Select the top Invite option.
- Select App Access.
- From here you have the option to invite a guest from your phone's existing contacts list, or manually enter a guest's mobile number.
- Select continue, on the next page you will see a list of locks for which you can grant app access.
- Here you can select the app access level as a Guest or Owner.
- Here you can set the access schedule as Always, Recurring, or Temporary.
- Tap send invite (note the send invite icon varies between operating systems).
- The new guests will now appear in your guest list.
- Select the new guest's name, this will open the guest's access menu.
- Select Fingerprint, (Note - from here you can remove a previously registered fingerprint and register a new fingerprint).
- Follow the in-app process to register your guests fingerprint. at this stage the guest will need to physically place their finger on the keypad for the registration process.
- Once you have successfully registered your guest's fingerprint, a yellow fingerprint icon will appear next to their name in the Guest List.
How to set up a guest's Fingerprint Only access without requiring them to create a Yale Home account.
- Select Access from the Yale Home App dashboard.
- Select Invite and then Fingerprint Only.
- Enter the guests name, tap Continue.
- Acknowledge the information and tap Continue.
- Follow the instructions and then select Continue.
- Acknowledge the information and tap Agree.
- Test the fingerprint then tap Done.
- Once you have successfully registered your guest's fingerprint, a yellow fingerprint icon will appear next to their name in the Guest List under Fingerprint Only.
Note only the owner of the keypad can delete a registered fingerprint.
- Open the Yale Home App.
- Select Access from the dashboard.
- Select yourself or your guest from the Guest List to get to the access settings menu
- Select the Fingerprint tab.
- From here you can remove a previously registered fingerprint by tapping Unregister Fingerprint
Yale Smart Lock owners have the ability to issue Always On, Temporary, and Recurring entry codes. If you have a keypad connected to a Yale Smart Lock, you can follow the instructions below to add an access schedule.
- Open the Yale Home App.
- Select Access from the dashboard.
- Click on the user whose entry code access you want to manage.
- Tap on Access Schedule.
- Choose Always, Recurring, or Temporary.
- The schedule you choose will apply for both App Access and Entry Code Access.
Here we cover the steps necessary to disconnect a Yale Smart Keypad 2 from a Yale Smart Lock.
PLEASE NOTE: You must be within Bluetooth range of the keypad in order to disconnect the device from the lock. The following steps will disconnect your keypad from your lock:
- Open the Yale Home App.
- Scroll to the bottom of the dashboard and select All Devices.
- Select the Keypad.
- Select Reset Keypad found under Utilities.
- Select Disconnect, the keypad will then be reset.
- You will see a successfully reset message on the screen, this completes the disconnection process and your keypad is no longer connected to your lock.
Note - Resetting a Yale Smart keypad 2 will delete all entry codes affiliated with that keypad. If you wish to reset your keypad, do so as a last resort only. A factory reset of your keypad will result in the deletion of all codes associated with the keypad.
To find and adjust the Yale Smart Keypad 2 settings:
- Open the Yale Home App.
- Scroll to the bottom of the dashboard and select All Devices.
- Select the Keypad.

The Yale Smart Keypad 2 - Fingerprint includes the capability to enable One-Touch Locking, meaning you can lock your Smart Lock just by pressing the Yale button on the bottom of the keypad.
One-Touch Lock notifications are turned off by default, but notifications can be enabled in the keypad settings.
One-Touch Lock notifications will only be received by the person who sets them and your smart lock must have either built-in Wi-Fi or a Yale Connect Wi-Fi bridge connected, to receive the notifications.
Note - Compatibility with this feature is dependent on the model of lock.
The Doorbell feature can be used if the associated Lock is connected to the internet with a Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge, or if the lock has built-in Wi-Fi.
Once enabled in the Keypad Settings via the Yale Home App, The Doorbell icon will illuminate on the keypad upon approach, when pressed, you will receive a notification on your phone to alert you that someone has pressed the Doorbell on your keypad. The keypad will also emit a sound when the Doorbell is pressed.
If you also have an Alexa or Google integration, pressing the doorbell can play a sound over your smart speakers as well.
To update your Yale Smart Keypad 2 - Fingerprint firmware please perform the following steps:
- Open the Yale Home App when you’re within Bluetooth range of the keypad and go to the lock status screen for the lock the keypad is connected to.
- If there is an update available you will be prompted with the keypad firmware update alert, tap “start”.
- Remain on the update screen until the update is complete.
Troubleshooting:
- If the firmware update process is interrupted you'll need to start over.
- If the update doesn't begin, try pressing the Yale button on the front of the keypad for 10 seconds.
With the Hide Entry Codes lock feature, you have the option to add an extra layer of security when viewing personal entry codes in the Yale Home App, by adding your phone's built-in authentication. When the Hide Entry Codes lock feature is enabled, your phone’s authentication is needed to:
- View user entry codes
- Disable the feature
When this feature is disabled, Entry Codes are visible when you select the entry code in a guest’s profile. Enabling Hide Entry Codes provides an extra layer of security for you and other owners of your lock, because authentication is required to view the entry codes.

What products can I enable this feature for?
This setting works with any Yale Lock, or Yale Smart Keypad, set up to work with the Yale Home App via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Who can see the Entry Codes of all users?
When this setting is enabled, any lock owner can see another user’s Entry Code after authentication.
How do I enable this feature?
To enable the Hide Entry Code feature:
- Open the Yale Home App.
- Select a Lock (with either an associated keypad, or with a built in keypad).
- Select the Settings icon from the top right.
- Under the Security, toggle Hide Entry Codes to on.
After you enable this feature, your phone’s authentication setting will run when you tap on Entry Code in the profile.
PLEASE NOTE: If the lock is not paired to an Wi-Fi bridge, a Bluetooth connection is required to see the Entry Code.
If I enable this feature, will it be enabled for other lock users?
If you enable the Hide Entry Code feature in your settings, the feature will also be enabled for other Owners of the associated lock.
I enabled this feature, but now it is disabled. Why?
If you enabled the Hide Entry Code setting, but it has been disabled, it is likely that another lock Owner disabled the feature in their settings.
You can check the battery level in the Keypad Settings menu via the Yale Home app, the battery level will be displayed as Full, Medium, or Low.
When the Yale Smart keypad 2 batteries are running low, The battery symbol on the keypad flashes red and an audible tone plays. In addition to this, Owners will also see an in-app low battery message pop up and receive an email notification. The Battery level can also be checked in the Settings menu for the associated keypad in the Yale Home App.
The Yale Smart Keypad 2, facilitates access to up to 220 unique 4-6 digit codes, which are stored on the smart lock that the keypad is associated with.
The Yale Smart Keypad 2, can facilitate up to 10 Fingerprints, with only 1 Fingerprint registered per user. The Fingerprint credentials are safely encrypted and stored on the Keypad.
The entry code limit for the Yale Smart Keypad 2 is 220 unique codes. The fingerprint limit is 10.
Once the limit is reached, existing codes or fingerprints will need to be removed to make room for new ones.
Note - After deleting a code or fingerprint, it is helpful to refresh the Yale Home app, to sync any changes that were made.
The keypad displays the following light activity:
Green LED indicator: Entry Code or Fingerprint accepted
If the Entry code or Fingerprint is correct the keypad LED indicator bar at the top will flash Green if the correct Entry code or Fingerprint is used.
Red LED indicator: Entry Code or Fingerprint not accepted
If the Entry code or Fingerprint is incorrect, the keypad LED indicator bar at the top will flash Red.
Red Battery Indicator: Batteries are low
If the batteries in the keypad are running low and need to be replaced, the battery icon in the top bar of the keypad will light up red continuously.
You can find your keypad serial number using the Yale Home App.
- Open the Yale Home App.
- Select All Devices.
- Select your Keypad.
- The serial number will be displayed here under Information.
Alternatively, your keypad's serial number can be found on the back of the device.
To temporarily disable your keypad please follow the steps below. You will need to be within Bluetooth range of your keypad to do this:
- Open the Yale Home App.
- Select All Devices.
- Select your Keypad.
- From the Settings menu, toggle the Enable Keypad option to "Off".
- The keypad is now disabled. To re-enable the keypad, go back through the steps and toggle Enable Keypad to "On".
PLEASE NOTE: One Touch Lock will also be disabled after you disable the keypad.
When installing the keypad for the first time, you can remove the battery cover using the pull tab.
However if the pull tab is no longer attached, or if the keypad is installed onto a property, you need to use the removal pin supplied in the box.
The Yale Smart Keypad 2 requires 4 x AAA batteries. We recommend replacing all 4 batteries each time the batteries are replaced.
To remove and replace the batteries in your keypad:
1. Push in the tab at the bottom using the supplied pin tool, to release the keypad from the back panel. This will give you access to the battery compartment built into the rear of the keypad.
2. Remove the old batteries and insert 4 new AAA batteries.
3. Clip the keypad back onto the back panel.
