Digital Deadlocking on the Yale Unity Entrance lock enables the ability to lock both the inside and outside handles. On the Yale Unity Entrance Lock digital deadlocking can be actioned via the Yale Home App or the contactless key tag.
The internal electronic snib/button acts as a method for users to change the status of the lock status between locked and unlocked modes manually. For example; Press the internal electronic snib/button to change to passage mode for short visits outside.
No. The Unity lock cannot be used on an outdoor gate. The front of the lock furniture has an IP rating of IP54. We suggest that the lock is installed on an entry door with a form of shelter directly over the lock.
No. Unfortunately the Unity lock is not Z-Wave compliant and cannot be used on Z-Wave home automation platforms. A Yale Assure Series lock with a Yale Z-Wave module can be purchased to integrate into Z-Wave home automation systems.
The Unity Entrance lock uses the Yale Home App which is available on either iOS or Android.
In order to provide optimal service to all our users, Yale Connect maintains app support for the two most recent operating systems for both iOS and Android platforms.
*If you have downloaded the Yale Connect App and are running an older version of either OS, you should be able to continue using the version of the app you have. If you run into issues, contact Customer Support info.nz@assaabloy.com
Compatible iOS Devices
Yale Home devices are compatible with newer phone models running iOS 11 or greater*. Information to help you determine the compatible iOS devices is available here.
Compatible Android Devices
Yale Connect devices are compatible with most Android phones equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 and running Android 8* or higher. We routinely test with phones from major manufacturers, including Samsung, Google, and HTC.
In some cases on specific phones, the Android Bluetooth stack can get stuck in a bad state, and may need to be re-started by the user by turning bluetooth on and off.
Below are specific devices where performance has been inconsistent:
Yale Connect Hub/Bridge communicate with Yale Home servers to allow remote access to the Yale Home Smart Lock when you are outside of Bluetooth range. Without a Yale Connect Hub/Bridge, you will not receive updates to your Activity Feed until an owner connects to the lock with their Yale Home App. If you have HomeKit or Z-Wave and no Yale Connect Hub/Bridge, lock activity will not update in the Activity Feed in the Yale Home App until an owner has made a Bluetooth connection with the lock.
When it comes to some third-party integrations, a Yale Connect Hub/Bridge is required to enable these devices to communicate Cloud-to-Cloud. The table below indicates which third-party integrations require a Yale Connect Hub/Bridge:
Integration | Yale Connect Hub/Bridge Needed? |
Google Home | Yes |
Amazon Alexa | Yes |
Nest | No |
IFTTT | No, but recommended |
Logitech Pop | Yes |
Logitech Harmony Home Hub | Yes |
Wink | Yes, unless it’s Smart Lock Pro with a Z-Wave hub |
Airbnb | Lock Only: No Keypad Only: Yes (ASL 2nd gen and higher) Lock and Keypad: Yes |
HomeAway | Yes |
Xfinity Home | Yes |
Honeywell | Yes |
The following scenarios explain what happens with and without a Yale Connect Hub/Bridge:
Receive Smart Alert notifications when:
Alexa and/or Google Assistant apps update as events occur.
Activity Feed updates as lock events listed above occur as long as your hub/bridge is online.
Receive Smart Alerts only if another Yale Home App (AA) user locks/unlocks your door using Yale Home App.
Without a Yale Connect Hub/Bridge, battery readings may be delayed or not sent until a lock Owner connects to the lock through the Yale Home App. If the lock Owner seldom connects to the lock, the batteries could reach a low-power threshold without receiving a notification.
The Activity Feed only updates when another Owner (not Guest) accesses the lock using the Yale Home App. The Activity Feed will update retroactively, but not at the time of the event.
How it works?
Yale may need to assist you with a factory reset if you've acquired a previously-used Yale Device. Please contact our Support team at info.nz@assaabloy.com and provide your valid proof of purchase (if possible) and the serial number, which is located on the back of the device. The Yale support team will contact the original owner to perform the factory reset.
If you are the lock owner and you would like to transfer your lock to a new lock owner, it is best to factory reset your lock before you transfer it. Please read "How to reset your lock to its factory settings" article in Yale Home FAQ.
A factory reset erases all guest and owner data from your lock, restoring it back to its original, out-of-the-box settings. It also removes the lock from any owner or guest keychains that it is affiliated with. You do not need to be near your lock to reset it; however, you will need to have access to the lock in order to re-calibrate it. If there is a Keypad paired with the lock, the Keypad must be disconnected before factory resetting the lock.
Factory reset instructions
Follow the steps below to perform a factory reset on your lock:
These steps should restore your lock to its factory settings.
If you attempt a factory reset when you’re not connected to Bluetooth, you will receive a "Trouble Connecting to Lock" notification. If possible, try factory resetting the next time you are in Bluetooth range. If you have moved and you are unable to factory reset while in Bluetooth range of the lock, select "Reset Anyway" when you receive the notification.
Pre-Owned Devices
If you are not the original lock owner because you acquired a previously-owned Smart Lock, the Yale Support team may need to assist you with your factory reset. Please contact info.nz@assaabloy.com and provide your valid proof of purchase (if possible) and the Yale Smart Lock serial number, which is located on the back of the lock. The Yale support team will contact the original owner to perform the factory reset.

Why do I need a Yale Connect Hub/Bridge if my Amazon devices have Bluetooth built-in?
Amazon Alexa requires a Yale Connect Hub/Bridge in order to connect to our servers and complete the integration with your Yale Home Smart Lock.
The diagram below explains how the integration works:
What happens?
The lock and Yale Home App will provide you with a battery warning when the battery level reaches 25% remaining battery.
We strongly suggest you change the lock batteries before the batteries completely drain and the lock cannot be operated.
If the batteries are too low to power up the lock, the USB-C power-up port can be located at the bottom of the front of the lock body.
How to solve the issue?
A phone can be used to power up the lock. For this, you will require a USB-C to USB adapter for the phone cord to plug into. A power bank can be used to power up the lock. The power bank will require a USB-C cable to connect to the lock.
When powering up the lock ensure the adapter is firmly held into the port. The covers around the adaptor can vary in size, so ensure it is in the port securely.
How it works?
The soft reset button can be located next to the USB-C power up port located at the bottom of the front of the lock body. A soft reset on the lock can be conducted from the outside, similar to that of restarting your mobile device. It does not reset the lock to factory settings. The soft reset can be used for instance if an issue occurs with Bluetooth communication.
To disable the locks alarm, the lock needs to be unlocked either via the Yale Home App or using the contactless key tag.
What to do?
Check that the Door Position Sensor is connected and installed properly. If the Door Position Sensor is not installed correctly, you will not be able to enter the lock into secure mode.
How it works?
The latch will only retract once the batteries are installed into the lock.
IMPORTANT: The spindles must be engaged into the latch like below. If this is not correctly aligned you could damage your lock.
Check the thickness of your door. If the door is over 45mm you will need to use the extension spindles and extension hub.
How it works?
Check the door thickness. If your door is less than 45mm you will not need to use the spindle extension and hub.
Check the alignment of the latch and the 54mm hole. The latch must be centred of the hole and also ensure you have used the latch supplied with the product. If the lock is not installed correctly, you may damage the lock.
If you are installing the lock over an existing door preparation, check that all drill holes are straight and as per the Unity installation template provided.
IMPORTANT: The spindles must be engaged into the latch like the image on the right. If this is not correctly aligned you could damage your lock.
If the lock is not installed correctly, you may damage the lock.
If required, a 70mm backset latch can be purchased separately; Part number: Y530-222SC.
If you hear any grinding sounds when trying to operate the lock there is pressure on the clutch mechanism, which can be from installation misalignments. Remove the lock from the door and ensure that the holes drilled are correct as per the template and in line as per the template. Ensure that when you are reinstalling the lock, that the spindles are fitted into the latch hole.
How it works?
You can change the handing of the lock if you have not installed the batteries.
To hand the lock,
Ensure you complete this step for both handles. If you feel any resistance when handing do not force the handle. Release the tab and handle try again.
If you have installed the batteries and setup the lock and need to change the handing follow the below process;
This error will occur when the lock is unable to connect to BLE. What has likely happened is that the firmware update has not completed which will cause this error.
How it works?
For a new install if the firmware has not correctly been updated, this can cause a Bluetooth communication error. Action the below steps to reactivate the Bluetooth.
If a user has been connected via Bluetooth to the lock and suddenly the connection drops, attempt the below steps.
Press the "R" button for 10-15 seconds, then you will hear the lock startup tone and the LED light will flash blue.
There are 2 contactless key tags supplied with the Yale Unity Entrance Lock. A contactless key tag can be added to the lock via the Yale Home App. Follow the steps below;
Once a contactless key is created the access can be set.
All keys can be deleted at any time for any reason.
Click ok when you’re done.
Activation
The secure mode can be activated through two methods, the Yale Home App and contactless key tags.
Method 1: Yale Home App
Place the lock into locked mode (red circle). Hold the circle down. The circle will begin pulsing and the circle will fill and once complete, release. A red square will now appear in the App reading Closed|Secured.
Method 2: Contactless Key Tag
From the outside of the lock, ensuring the door is closed, hold the contactless key tag over the reader for 5 seconds. The lock will beep 3 times and the LED indicator will flash red.
Deactivation
If you have already set up the lock with the Yale Home App, to re-hand the lock see "I have handed my lock incorrectly. How do I change the handing?" in Troubleshooting above.
To hand the lock, hold down on the metal slide tab on the inside of the handle located towards the bottom. Rotate the handle downwards to the left or right, depending on your selected handing. Ensure you complete this step for both handles. If you feel any resistance when handing do not force the handle. Release the tab and handle and try again.
This is shown in step 3 of the Yale Unity Instruction Guide.
Issue keys to family, friends, and services listed in your contacts with Yale. Simply send each guest an invitation to download the app. After doing so, they'll have instant access to your home based on the access levels you set. If they already have an Yale Home Account, your key will appear in their keychain after you send the invite provided you send it to the number listed in their Yale Home Account.
Read on iOS or Android (depending on your device) below for steps to invite guests to use your Yale Home Smart Lock.
To add a guest, first send them an invite:
After you invite a guest to your Yale Assure, they will receive a text notification with a link to download the Yale Home App. When the invitee downloads and opens the Yale Home App, they have three options to log in. Your guest should choose the blue button that says I RECEIVED AN INVITE. Selecting this option adds your lock to their keychain. Your guest will be added to your Guest List and they will see your lock in their Keychain on their Yale Home App.
If your guest selects the option to SET UP MY FIRST YALE HOME DEVICE they will be prompted through the lock setup flow, but will be unable to complete the flow as the device is already associated with your account.
The last option is to SIGN IN to an existing account. Yale Home users that already have an account with devices associated with it can use this option to log in.
Guests have limited access to the Yale Assure. If you want to give someone more access, such as Auto-Lock or Auto-Unlock privileges, you can upgrade them to Owner access. To change a Guest's access to Owner, follow the directions outlined in "How to Set Smart Lock Access Levels" article in Yale Home Module How-to Guides.
If you have an Yale Home Keypad, it's just as simple to issue your Guests an entry code. To learn about Entry Code invites, please read "How to Create Smart Keypad Entry Codes" article in Yale Home Module How-to Guides.

This article provides steps to remove a lock from your account. PLEASE NOTE: Your status as either a lock Owner or a Guest, as well as your reason for removing the lock, determines the best method for removing the device from your account. Read on Lock Owner or Guest (depending on your access level) for instructions.
If you are a lock Owner and you need to delete a lock because you no longer wish to have access to it, you need to factory reset the lock in order to remove it from your account. Follow the factory reset instructions to remove the lock from your account, please follow the instructions in "How to Reset Your Yale Home Module" article in How-to Guides below. Factory resetting the lock will also remove all other associated accounts from the lock.
If you are a lock Owner and you need to remove the lock to install it on another door, you will need to factory reset the lock unless the door is on the same house as it is currently. If you are installing the lock on the same house, you can remove the lock from its current door and reinstall it on the new door without factory resetting. For example, if you are installing a new Yale smart lock on your front door and you wish to relocate your existing Yale smart lock to your back door, you can rename accordingly. In this case, you can rename the lock in your account as follows:
If you are a lock Owner and you have moved and you left the lock at your former residence, you will need to factory reset the lock in order to remove it from your account. Please follow the instructions in "How to Reset Your Yale Home Module" article in How-to Guides below.
If you are a Guest on a lock and you want to remove the device from your account:
You will be prompted to verify that you would like to remove the user, in this case yourself, from the device.
Access levels and schedules determine how much access a lock user has as well as when they have permission to control the lock.
Yale offers 2 access levels: Owner and Guest. A lock Owner has full access to the lock and Guests have limited access (outlined under Access Levels). Only lock Owners can invite Guests to a lock. When inviting Guests, you can customize their access level and choose to be notified when they operate your lock.
There are also different Access Schedules: Always, Recurring, and Temporary (outlined under Access Schedules).
Lock Owners are users who:
Always - Guests will have unlimited access, but the owner can change or delete their access at any time.
Recurring - Guests will have a scheduled access that repeats. i.e. guests will be invited every Tuesday for a short period of time.
Temporary - Guests will have a limited invitation to your home that expires. i.e. guests will have access for a one time use, limited to the date and time you've selected.
Guest is the default access level for anyone invited to your Yale Smart Lock, but you can update a person's access level when you invite them to your lock or at any time thereafter. Guest users:
*Cellular data or an Internet connection is required. Due to the 3 Guest Access Schedules, our servers need to verify that the guest is connecting during the timeframe that they are authorized.

Auto-Unlock is a feature that automatically unlocks your door when you arrive home, without having to reach for your phone or your keys.
If you're an iOS user, please read the article below on "How to Use Auto-Unlock for iOS" for more information about the Auto-Unlock feature.
How it works?
Yale Home uses two states to enable Auto-Unlock to function: Home mode, and Away mode. These modes indicate where Auto-Unlock thinks you are: at home, or away from home.
When you are at home (in Home mode), Auto-Unlock is not actively doing anything. It is waiting until you leave home.
When you approach your door, Auto-Unlock will unlock your door via Bluetooth. This means Auto-Unlock cannot operate your lock when you are away from home.
You are considered away from home when you leave your immediate neighbourhood, which is about 200 meters, or a couple city blocks. It is only active when you return to your home area.
Tips for good Auto-Unlock performance
For best results: Enter and exit your home through the door where your Yale Home Smart Lock is installed.

Smart Alerts are sent as notifications and let you know about the activity of your Yale Assure. Many Smart Alerts appear in the Activity Feed.
Smart Alert options currently include manual lock events, user-specific lock operations, notifications for when a door is left open, Auto-Lock notifications, and door locking with One-Touch Keypad operation (requires Yale Smart Keypad).
Over time, additional notifications and scheduling options will be added.
For the best Smart Alerts experience, we recommend that you pair Yale Home Smart Lock with Yale Connect Hub/Bridge.

Factory resetting a Yale Home Smart Lock erases all lock settings, as well as owner- and guest data, restoring it back to its original factory settings. A factory reset also removes the lock from any owners' or guests' keychain. A factory reset can be performed from within the Yale Home App provided you are within Bluetooth range of the host lock.
How to reset your Yale Home module
PLEASE NOTE: The above steps reset both the module AND the lock and will erase all settings/pins. You will require a new master pin code. HomeKit is NOT reset when you factory reset the Yale Home module.
There is also an option to reset the host lock using a button located on the lock. This method of reset will reset the host lock and HomeKit. The location of the reset button differs depending on the model of the host lock you have. Please see the manufacturer’s instructions for reset steps.
PLEASE NOTE: Resetting your host lock using the lock’s reset button may cause a Module Communication Error. Please read the "Yale Home Module Communication Error" article in Yale Home Module Troubleshooting for steps to resolve the error.
If you moved into a new home and there is a Yale Home Smart Lock installed, you will need to factory reset the device if the device is still associated with the previous owner.
