Is Yale Smart Keypad Waterproof or Water-Resistant?
Yale Smart Keypads are typically installed on the exterior of the home and they are suitable for outdoor use. The Yale Smart Keypad has an IP55 rating, meaning they are dust protected and effective against water jetting.
How to Set Up Your Smart Keypad
- Before beginning the setup process, make sure the Keypad back light is blinking
- Open the Yale Home App and select the top right + icon
- Scan the QR code on the back of the keypad when prompted
- Select ‘Start Setup’ and follow the onscreen instructions. You’ll see a series of screens as the Yale Home app connects to your Smart Keypad and prepares it for use. As part of the process your Yale Keypad will download any new firmware updates, and will ask you to select which lock the keypad should work with
- Select ‘Continue’ Congratulations! Your Smart Keypad is ready to use.
How many unique codes can I access using the Smart Keypad?
The Yale Smart Keypad facilitates access to up to 220 unique 4-6 digit codes, which are stored on the smart product that the keypad is associated with.

How do I replace the batteries in the device?
The Smart Keypad requires 2 x AAA batteries. We recommend replacing both batteries every time they are replaced. To remove and replace the batteries in your Smart Keypad:
- Push in the tab on the underside of the Keypad to release the keypad from the back panel
- Remove the batteries
- Insert 2 x new AAA batteries
- Clip the keypad back onto the back panel
How do I temporarily disable the Yale Smart Keypad?
To temporarily disable your keypad please follow the steps below. You will need to be within Bluetooth range of your keypad to do this:
- Open the Yale Home App.
- Select All Devices.
- Select your Keypad.
- From the Settings menu, toggle the Enable Keypad option to "Off".
- The keypad is now disabled. To re-enable the keypad, go back through the steps and toggle Enable Keypad to "On".
PLEASE NOTE: One Touch Lock will also be disabled after you disable the keypad.
How to Update the Firmware on your Yale Smart Keypad
To update your Yale Smart Keypad’s firmware please perform the following steps:
- Open the Yale Home App when you’re standing next to the keypad and select the lock the keypad is connected to.
- When prompted with the keypad firmware update alert, tap “start”.
- Press and hold the Yale button on the keypad for 5 seconds. You’ll see the progress bar indicate that a connection has been established and that the update has started.
- Remain on the update screen until the update completes.
- Your Smart Keypad is now updated.
Troubleshooting:
- If the firmware update process is interrupted you'll need to start over.
- If the update doesn't begin, try holding the Yale button down for 10 seconds instead of 5.
What does the light activity on the Keypad mean?
They keypad displays the following light activity:
Slow pulsing red LED: Setup mode
This lasts for 30 minutes and then stops if keypad setup is incomplete. To put the keypad in setup mode again, remove and reinsert one battery.
Pulsing LEDs after code entry: Establishing Bluetooth Connection
This lasts for 30 seconds. If the keypad is unable to establish a Bluetooth connection with the lock, the LEDs will stop pulsing and nothing else happens.
Rapid LED flashes: Batteries are low
If the batteries in the Keypad are running low on power and need to be replaced, the entire keypad will flash red rapidly every 5 seconds. The LEDs will stop pulsing once the batteries have been replaced with new ones.
How to Disconnect a Smart Keypad
The Smart Keypad can be reset and removed from the app by following the process below-
- Ensure you are within Bluetooth range of the Keypad (4 metres).
- Open the Yale Home app and select All Devices from the dashboard.
- Select your Keypad.
- From Utilities, select Reset Keypad and follow the onscreen prompts.
- The Keypad has now been reset and removed from your Yale Home app.

Reset the Yale Smart Keypad
The Smart Keypad can be reset and removed from the app by following the process below-
- Ensure you are within Bluetooth range of the Keypad (4 metres).
- Open the Yale Home app and select All Devices from the dashboard.
- Select your Keypad.
- From Utilities, select Reset Keypad and follow the onscreen prompts.
- The Keypad has now been reset and removed from your Yale Home app.
PLEASE NOTE: Resetting the keypad will wipe out all existing entry codes and they will need to be added back after the keypad is set up again.
Entry Code Fails to Unlock the Door
If the door doesn’t unlock after entering the code, listen for the number of buzzes:
- One buzz: Incorrect code. Re-enter a 4–6 digit code and press the Yale button.
- Two buzzes: Keypad isn’t communicating with the lock. Unlock via the app, enter the property, and reset the keypad.
Before resetting the keypad:
- Check if the lock connects to your phone to rule out battery or lock issues.
- If the lock is the issue, reboot it by removing and reinserting a battery.
- Try the code again. If it still fails, proceed with a keypad reset.
"Cannot Connect to Lock" Error Message When Creating A Personal Entry Code
If your Yale Smart Lock is connected to a Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge, or if it has built-in Wi-Fi, you can remotely update personal entry codes for the Yale Smart Keypad.
However, without a Wi-Fi connection (either via a Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge or a lock with built-in Wi-Fi), you will see an error message when attempting to create an entry code remotely.
In this case, personal entry codes can only be created when your mobile device is connected to the Yale Smart Lock via Bluetooth.
If the wrong code is entered too many times, will my keypad timeout?
Yes, to enhance security if an incorrect entry code is entered 7 times, the keypad will timeout for 5 minutes and not accept further entry code attempts during this period.
