Getting Started
The default setting on the Smart Garage Opener powered by Yale Home is the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is off.
To enable the Wi-Fi and BLE, these are the steps you have to carry out on the Smart Garage Opener powered by Yale Home.
- Locate the control panel on the Garage Opener.
- Open the cover.
- To the right of the control panel there should be a small display with 4 buttons ( Enter, ESC, UP, and DOWN) around it.
- Press the 'ENTER' Button and the display should highlight 'FV' (Favorites menu).
- Press the 'ENTER' button again and the next icon from the display should be 'A5'.
- Press the 'UP' button, the display should show 'WF'.
- Once ' WF' can be seen on the display press 'ENTER' again.
- You will be presented with the option of 'ON' and 'OFF' and press the Button 'UP' to select 'ON'.
- Hold on to the 'ENTER' button until the display shows 'OK'.
- Once 'OK' is blinking press ESC and your WIFI and BLUETOOTH should be active.

Everyday Use
This guide provides steps to set up your Yale Smart Keypad. Before the installation begins, you may be prompted to update the firmware on your Smart Garage Opener powered by Yale Home.
- Before beginning the setup process, make sure the Keypad back light is blinking
- Open the Yale Home App, select the + icon at the top right of the screen
- Scan the QR code on the back of the keypad when prompted
- Select Start Setup and follow the onscreen instructions. You'll see a series of screens as the Yale Home app connects to your Smart Keypad and prepares it for use. As part of the process your Yale Keypad will download any new firmware updates, and will ask you to select which lock the keypad should work with
- Select Continue
Congratulations! Your Smart Keypad is ready to use.
Here we cover the steps necessary to disconnect a Yale Smart Keypad from a Smart Garage Opener powered by Yale Home.
PLEASE NOTE: You must be within Bluetooth range of the Keypad in order to disconnect the device from the Smart Opener.
The following steps will disconnect your keypad from your device:
- Open the Yale Home App and select "All Devices"
- Select the Keypad and you will then be taken to Keypad Settings
- Select "Reset Keypad"
- Select "Disconnect". This action triggers the system to send your unique reset code
- Enter the reset code and press the Yale button on the Keypad to complete the disconnection process
This completes the disconnection process and your Keypad is no longer connected to your Yale Smart Opener powered by Yale Home.
The Yale Smart Keypad or Yale Smart Keypad 2 - Fingerprint must be paired to the Smart Opener, in order to create and use personal entry codes.
Once you have set up the Keypad, follow the steps below to find, update, and use your personal Entry Code.
To find your personal entry code:
- Open up the Yale Home App.
- Select Access from the bottom of the screen.
- Select yourself from the Guest List to get to My Access.
To update your personal entry code:
Your personal entry code(s) appears below the associated lock if there are multiple locks. Depending on the settings on the lock, it may be blanked out as a security precaution. If this is the case you will need to authenticate with your phones passcode/biometrics to view the code. If you want to update an existing personal entry code, follow the steps above, then:
- Select the Entry Code you wish to change.
- Enter a new code (first time setup) or, select Manage Entry Code and then enter a code.
- Select Save to confirm.
To use your Personal Entry Code:
- Enter your personal entry code on the keypad
- Press the Yale button, or tick, depending on the keypad model.
- The keypad light will pulse and then flash when the lock operation has been completed.
Entry codes need to be between 4 and 6 digits and a user may have up to 220 entry codes on a lock.
Guests with keypad access have a Yellow circle with a hash symbol to the right of their name in the Guest List. If you have assigned Entry Codes to guests, follow the same steps to update their personal entry codes from within the Yale Home App.

If you are the only app owner for the Yale Smart Garage Door Opener and wish to delete because you no longer require access to it, you will need to factory reset the device to remove it from your account. Factory resetting the device will also remove all other associated accounts from it.
- Ensure you are within Bluetooth range of the Smart Garage Door Opener (4 metres).
- Open the Yale Home app.
- Select your device and then the Settings icon.
- Scroll down to Utilities, select Factory Reset and follow the onscreen prompts.
- The device has now been reset and removed from your Yale Home app.
If you are a Guest user for a Smart Garage Door Opener and you want to remove the device from your account:
- Open the Yale Home app, select "Access” from the bottom of the screen.
- Select your profile.
- Select "Remove User".
The Yale Home App offers 2 access levels: Owner and Guest. Guest is the default access level for anyone invited to your Smart Garage Door Opener powered by Yale Home, but you can update a person's access level when you invite them to your device or at any time thereafter.
PLEASE NOTE: Guests need to create an account and download the Yale Home App.
Select either iOS or Android (depending on your device) for steps to change Access Levels.
iOS
Changing a Guest to an Owner
- Open the Yale Home App and within the house where your Smart Garage Door Opener is, select the Access Icon from bottom of the screen
- Select the Guest you want to edit
- Select Owner to change the Access Level from Guest to Owner
- A yellow tick will display beside your selection
- Select the back arrow to confirm changes
Your Guest is now an Owner and will display as an Owner in your Guest List
You can change a user's access level back to Guest at any time by completing these steps again and selecting Guest from the Access Level options.
Owners
Users with Owner Access can:
- Lock and unlock via Yale Home App
- Use Auto-Unlock
- Invite/remove guests and owners
- Control all lock settings
- View activity feed
- View guest list
- Operate the Smart Garage Door Opener remotely
Guests
Users with Guest Access can:
- Lock and unlock the Smart Garage Door Opener via the Yale Home app
- Not use Auto-Unlock
- Not invite/remove guests and owners
- Not control all lock settings
- Not view activity feed
- Not view guest list

Android
Changing a Guest to an Owner
- Open the Yale Home App and within the house where your Smart Garage Door Opener is, select the select the Access Icon from bottom of the screen
- Select the Guest you want to edit
- Change the Access Level from Guest to Owner
- Select the "Save Changes" option at the bottom of the screen to save your changes
Your Guest is now an Owner, and will display as an Owner in your Guest List
You can change a user's access level back to Guest at any time by completing these steps again and selecting Guest from the Access Level options.

PLEASE NOTE: Guests can not operate the Smart Garage Door Opener remotely
It is very simple to manage and view all of your properties, or homes in the Yale Home app. If you have multiple properties, you can create houses for each of them within the app.
You can choose to add a new house to your app when you set up a new device. Follow the steps below to do this:
- Open the Yale Home app.
- Select to top right "+" option to set up a device.
- Scan the device QR code (select "Help me find QR code" if unsure where to find this).
- Select "Start".
- Select "Continue" and then "Begin Setup". The Yale Home app will then scan for the new device.
- Once the app finds the device, you will then be able to select from a list of your existing properties, as well as "Create a New House". Select the latter option if you want to create a new house.
- When prompted, give your house a name, a photo (if you wish) and then select "Continue".
Continue setting up the device by following the onscreen instructions. The next time you open your Yale Home app home screen, you will see the new house in the app. You will also be able to select this house, during set up for new devices going forward.
You can reset your password through the 'forgotten password' flow on the log-in page of the Yale Home app

If you have an Apple Watch and a Yale Smart Garage Door Opener connected to the Yale Home app, you can use your Apple Watch to operate the device.
Firstly, ensure that you have installed the Yale Home app on your Apple Watch. You can do this using the "Watch" app on your iPhone.
Open the Yale Home app on your Apple Watch. Tap the green lock circle to unlock. You can also tap the red lock circle to lock.
Notes:
- Remote operations and Auto-Unlock do not work with Apple Watch. The user must be within Bluetooth range.
- Yale Home functionality for Apple Watch is available to device owners only. If you would like to operate your Smart Garage Door Opener using your Apple Watch, you must be an owner of the device and not a guest.
You can find your Smart Garage Door Opener serial number using the Yale Home App.
- Open the Yale Home app.
- Select your device and then the settings icon.
- Scroll down to "Device Information" and select.
- The serial number will be displayed here.
Note: The serial number is also printed on the unit itself, starting with the prefix SN.
If your phone is lost or stolen, follow these steps to regain access to your home:
To log out of all devices and disable your phone’s access to your Smart Garage Door Opener powered by Yale Home, you will need access to the Internet and the email account you use with Yale Home. You can access the Internet via a desktop computer or an alternative mobile device such as another phone or a tablet.

- Select the link Login with email from the bottom of the screen
- Enter your email and password to login
- Login to your email account and retrieve the verification code
- Go back to the account website, enter the code, and select verify
- Select Lost Phone to log out of the Yale Home App on all devices
- Select Logout of Yale Home App to complete steps
You are now logged out of your Yale account. PLEASE NOTE: Any third party apps such as Amazon, Google Assistant, etc. will continue working as expected.
To regain access to your home:
If you have a physical key, you can use that to get into your home.
If you have a Yale Smart Keypad you can use the keypad instead of the Yale Home App.
Another Owner of the Smart Garage Door Opener powered by Yale Home. can open your Garage/Gate remotely.
If none of the options mentioned above works you will need to gain access to your Smart Garage Door Opener powered by Yale Home using another smartphone.
- Step 1: Download the Yale Home App to a substitute smartphone.
- Step 2: Log into your Yale Home account
You can now operate your Smart Garage Door Opener powered by Yale Home. using this phone. Once you have a permanent replacement phone, there is no need to set up your Yale devices again. All that is required is to download the Yale Home App on the replacement phone and sign in / validate your phone number or email address. All of your Yale Home devices will remain set up in your account.

Both iOS and Android provide tools to help locate your phone and in some cases disable it (depending on the security features you’ve enabled.)
iPhone users:
Visit www.icloud.com, log in to your iCloud account, and select the “Find my iPhone” feature.
Android users:
Visit www.google.com/android/devicemanager and log into your Google Account.
If your phone cannot be located, you need to contact your cellular service carrier. If your phone cannot be retrieved your carrier can help you get a replacement phone and regain access to your phone number.

A factory reset erases all guest and owner data from your device, restoring it back to its original, out-of-the-box settings. It also removes the device from any owner or houses that it is affiliated with.
If there is a Yale Smart Keypad paired with the Smart Garage Door Opener, the Keypad must be disconnected before factory resetting the. This article provides instructions to disconnect a Yale Smart Keypad.
Factory reset instructions
Follow the steps below to perform a factory reset on your Smart Garage Door Opener:
- Ensure you are within Bluetooth range of the device (4 metres).
- Open the Yale Home app.
- Select your device and then the Settings icon.
- Scroll down to Utilities, select Factory Reset and follow the onscreen prompts.
- The device has now been reset and removed from your Yale Home app.
These steps should restore your Smart Garage Door Opener to its factory settings.
If you attempt a factory reset when you’re not connected to Bluetooth, you will receive a "Trouble Connecting to Lock" notification. If possible, try factory resetting the next time you are in Bluetooth range. If you have moved and you are unable to factory reset while in Bluetooth range of the device, select "Reset Anyway" when you receive the notification.
Pre-Owned Devices
If you are not the original device owner because you acquired a previously-owned Smart Garage Door Opener, you will be notified when trying to add the device to your Yale Home account. You may trigger a request to the previously linked owner from the Yale Home app, the previous owner will be informed that a new owner wants to access and setup the Smart Garage Door Opener, please allow up to 30 days for the previous owner to grant permission. If you are not granted permission by the previous owner after 30 days, please contact customer support.
Firmware updates are released periodically, to help improve device performance. When available, firmware updates begin automatically, when an owner connects to their device locally. You can still operate your device via the app during the update.
Firmware updates can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes. Please be sure to keep your phone near your device, with the Yale Home app open, throughout the whole update.
In order for the firmware to update, you must be within Bluetooth range of the device and have Bluetooth enabled on your phone.
Previously-Owned Yale Smart Locks/Openers need to be factory reset before they can be set up by a new owner. If you tried setting up a previously-owned device that was not factory reset before you acquired it, Yale needs permission from the previous owner to factory reset the device on their behalf.
It may take up to 30-days for the previous owner to respond to your request. If you purchased the lock/Opener directly from a person or 3rd party seller, you may wish to contact them and ask them to reset the device in order to expedite the process. Once the device has been factory reset, you will receive a notification to continue setting up the device.
If you purchased the device from a retailer, please contact them about an exchange.
If you received an email requesting to reset a device you used to own, it means that someone is requesting permission to reset a lock/opener that is currently registered under your account. To grant them permission, select YES.
By accepting the request, you as an owner of the device are giving Yale the permission to factory reset the lock/opener. This means you will be giving up ownership of the lock/opener and accept that once the lock/opener is reset, all existing users will lose access to it.

Personal entry codes for your Yale Smart Keypad can be created, modified, and deleted from anywhere while remotely connected. Creating, modifying, and deleting entry codes remotely requires a Wi-Fi connection, and the most recent version of the Yale Home App.
Without a Wi-Fi connection, personal entry codes can only be created when you are connected to your Smart Garage Door Opener powered by Yale Home via Bluetooth.
