Getting Started

  • Do I need to charge the battery before setting up my Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

    Yes - if the battery level is below 20% and no power source is connected, the setup process cannot begin. To ensure a smooth setup, we recommend connecting the doorbell to a power source before starting.

  • What application should I use with the Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

    Download the Yale App from the App Store or Google Play depending on your device.


    Once you have downloaded the Yale Home app you will need to click on create an account, or sign in if your already have an account.

  • How to install and setup the Yale Smart Video Doorbell

    The Yale Smart Video Doorbell needs to be wall mounted with the supplied fittings. Once the Doorbell has been setup with the Yale Home app, you can view the physical installation instructions in the device settings:

    • Open the Yale Home app.
    • From the dashboard, tap on the Doorbell.
    • Tap the Settings icon from the top right corner.
    • Scroll down to Installation Guide and select.

  • Is there a way to hear when someone is at the door without using the Yale Home app?

    Yes! You can use the Yale Doorbell Chime* — an accessory that pairs with your Yale Smart Video Doorbell.

    Simply plug the chime into a power outlet, and it will emit a sound whenever someone presses the doorbell button, giving you an audible alert inside your home.

  • Can I use my existing doorbell chime with the Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

    If you have a mechanical doorbell chime currently installed, it will need to be disconnected from the power supply, as it cannot be integrated with the Yale Smart Video Doorbell.

    For optimal performance, we recommend using the dedicated Yale Doorbell Chime, sold separately. It’s designed to work seamlessly with the Yale Smart Video Doorbell and ensures reliable alerts throughout your home.

Everyday Use

  • How do I view live footage from my Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

    You can access the live view instantly through the Yale Home app. Just open the app and tap the Doorbell Camera tile on your dashboard — the live feed will launch right away.

  • How do I capture videos or images on my Yale Smart Video Doorbell?

    1. Event-Based Recordings: The doorbell automatically records video clips when motion is detected. These recordings are triggered based on your motion detection settings. To adjust these:

    • Open the Yale Home app
    • Go to your Doorbell settings
    • Customize the motion detection and recording preferences

    2. Manual Capture via Live View: You can also manually record video or take snapshots while viewing the live feed:

    • Open the Yale Home app
    • Navigate to the Live View page for your doorbell
    • Tap Record to save a video clip
    • Tap Snapshot to capture an image
  • Where are videos and images stored?

    For all event-based recordings, the videos will be stored in the units built-in flash memory and accessed via the activity feed in the Yale Home app. If you have a Yale subscription plan, then the recordings will be securely stored in the Yale cloud instead of the units local flash memory.

    For on-demand video recordings or image snapshots, all media is stored in the mobile phone's storage and can be accessed through the built-in media gallery in the mobile operating system.

  • Can I adjust the length of video clips recorded when motion is detected?

    Yes, you can customize the clip length in the Yale Home app. Here's how:

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. Tap your Doorbell on the dashboard.
    3. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner.
    4. Scroll down to Motion Detection Settings and tap Clip Length.
    5. Use the slider to adjust the clip length between 10 and 60 seconds.
  • Can I change the video resolution for live streaming and recorded clips?

    To change the video resolution in the Yale Home app:

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. Tap your Doorbell on the dashboard.
    3. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner.
    4. Scroll down to Video Settings and tap Video Quality.
    5. Choose your preferred resolution:
      • High (1080p) for better image quality
      • Medium (720p) to save bandwidth or storage

Troubleshooting

  • Yale Smart Video Doorbell Not Powering On After Battery Recharge

    If you've recharged the battery in your Yale Smart Video Doorbell and the device still doesn't power on, a reboot may be required. Normally, the doorbell powers on automatically once the battery is charged. However, in some cases, a manual reboot is necessary.

    To reboot your doorbell:

    1. Use the security pin tool (included in the box) to remove the doorbell from its backplate, if it's not already detached.
    2. Locate the small reset button next to the power button on the rear of the unit.
    3. Using the pin tool, press and hold the reset button for 1 second.
    4. The device will reboot automatically.

    After rebooting, your doorbell should power on as expected.

  • Smart Video Doorbell: Rapid Battery Drain

    Adjusting the following device settings to match the installation environment can significantly extend battery life. You’ll find these options in the device settings within the Yale Home app.

    1.  Motion Detection Settings
      • Avoid enabling “All Other Motion Detection” in high-traffic areas.
      • Use “Human Detection” to reduce unnecessary triggers.
    2.  Motion Sensitivity
      • Lower sensitivity to reduce detection range and limit frequent activations.
    3.  Detection Zone
      • Exclude busy areas (e.g., roads, footpaths) using the zone editor to prevent unwanted triggers.
    4.  Clip Length
      • Set shorter recording durations (10–60 seconds).
      • Enable “End Recording When Motion Stops” to avoid extended recordings.
    5.  Motion Re-Trigger Time
      • Add a delay (10–60 seconds) between recordings to reduce battery use during continuous motion.
  • How to Reboot Your Yale Smart Video Doorbell

    You can reboot the device in two ways, via the Yale Home App and directly on the Doorbell unit.

    1: Reboot via the Yale Home App

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. From the dashboard, tap on your Doorbell.
    3. Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner.
    4. Scroll down to Utilities and select Restart Device.

    2: Reboot via the Doorbell Unit

    1. Use the security pin tool included in the box to remove the Doorbell from its backplate.
    2. Locate the small button next to the power button on the rear of the unit.
    3. Press this button for 1 second.

    Using either method, once restarted, the outer ring of the Doorbell will blink green, indicating a successful reboot.

  • Mechanical Chime Buzzing After Installation

    If your old mechanical chime is making a buzzing noise after installing your Yale Smart Video Doorbell, it likely means the chime is still connected to the power supply. As a result, it may vibrate or buzz due to electrical current passing through it.

    To resolve this issue, please disconnect the mechanical chime and bypass the power using the provided fuse. You can view the physical installation instructions in the device settings:

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. From the dashboard, tap on your Doorbell.
    3. Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner.
    4. Scroll down and select Installation Guide.

    You can reset your password in the app by choosing Forgot Password from the login screen, or alternatively- via the online account management portal link here
