Getting Started

  • Where can I install my Smart Cabinet Lock?

Your Yale Smart Cabinet Lock can be installed anywhere with a door or drawer that you wish to secure. Typical installations include kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, and desk drawers.

When installing cabinet lock we recommend you install the cabinet lock as far away from the door hinges as possible.

  • Can I install the Yale Smart Cabinet Lock on a double door cabinet?

Yes, you can. The Yale Smart Cabinet Lock can be installed on a double-door cabinet using the included double-door plate from the hardware kit.

    To install:

    1. Attach the double-door plate to the door opposite the Smart Cabinet Lock using either the provided screws or the double-sided tape.
    2. This plate secures the second door, keeping it locked when the Smart Cabinet Lock is engaged.
    3. Once the lock is unlocked, both cabinet doors can be opened.
  • Does the Yale Smart Cabinet Lock need to be connected to Wi-Fi?

The Yale Smart Cabinet Lock can easily be operated locally using the Yale Home app- as long as you're within Bluetooth range.

The Smart Cabinet Lock does not have built in Wi-Fi. If you wish to control your lock remotely (when you're not nearby), you'll need a Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge (sold separately). This Bridge connects to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and communicates with the lock via Bluetooth, enabling remote access through the Yale Home app.

  • How much pulling force can the Yale Smart Cabinet Lock withstand?

Smart Cabinet Lock can withstand up to 45kg of pulling force.

Everyday Use

  • Is my Yale Smart Cabinet Lock compatible with voice assistants?

Yes, if paired with the additional Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge, you can use your cabinet lock with all 3 voice assistants; Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa.

  • Why does my cabinet/drawer always lock when I close it?

The automatic re-lock feature is turned on by default. This means every time you close your cabinet/drawer, it will lock. You can turn this feature off from the Yale Home App in "Lock Settings".

Note, if you turn this feature off, the only way to lock the cabinet lock will be from the Yale Home App.

  • How often do I need to change the batteries on my Yale Smart Cabinet Lock?

The Cabinet Lock is designed to operate for approximately 12 months on a full battery with regular use. When the battery level falls low, the lock will alert you with a series of beeps, and the Yale Home App will send a notification.

To maintain uninterrupted access, please replace the batteries as soon as you receive a low battery alert.

  • What happens if my batteries die?

If the batteries reach a critically low level and are not replaced, the Smart Cabinet Lock will automatically unlock as a safety feature. This setting can be disabled in the Yale Home App.

If you choose to disable this feature and the batteries die, you will need to forcibly open the cabinet door to release the post from the lock body. The lock is designed so that the post will break away under a certain amount of force.

In case the post breaks, don’t worry—we’ve included a spare post for your convenience.

  • What is the button on the top of the Yale Smart Cabinet Lock used for?

The button on the top of the cabinet lock glows in the dark and unlocks the cabinet lock when pressed. This can be used as an emergency escape, in case a small child locks themselves inside a cabinet.

Troubleshooting

  • I do not receive notifications from the Yale Home App, why not?

In order to receive notifications for your Yale Smart Cabinet Lock, you must have the additional Yale Connect Wi-Fi bridge set up with your Yale Home App.

  • How to change the batteries in your Yale Smart Cabinet Lock

Remove the cabinet lock from the mounting bracket. Open the battery compartment door and remove the existing battery and then replace with a new battery. Once the new battery is installed, close the battery compartment door and re-mount.

  • Updating Lock Firmware

Firmware updates are released periodically, to help improve device performance. When available, firmware updates begin automatically, when the lock owner connects to their lock locally. You can still operate your lock via the app during the update.

Firmware updates can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes. Please be sure to keep your phone near your lock, with the Yale Home app open, throughout the whole update.

In order for the firmware to update, you must be within Bluetooth range of the lock and have Bluetooth enabled on your phone.

  • How do I factory reset my lock?

A factory reset erases all guest and owner data from your lock, restoring it back to its original, out-of-the-box settings. It also removes the lock from any owner or guest keychains that it is affiliated with.

    Factory reset instructions

Follow the steps below to perform a factory reset on your lock:

    1. Ensure you are within Bluetooth range of the lock (4 metres).
    2. Open the Yale Home app.
    3. Select your lock and then the settings icon.
    4. Scroll down to Utilities, select Factory Reset and follow the onscreen prompts.
    5. The lock has now been reset and removed from your Yale Home app.

These steps should restore your lock to its factory settings.

  • I need to reset a previously owned device

Previously-owned Yale Smart Locks need to be factory reset before they can be set up by a new owner. If you tried setting up a previously-owned device that was not factory reset before you acquired it, Yale needs permission from the previous owner to factory reset the device on their behalf.

It may take up to 30 days for the previous owner to respond to your request. If you purchased the lock directly from a person or 3rd party seller, you may wish to contact them and ask them to reset the device in order to expedite the process. Once the device has been factory reset, you will receive a notification to continue setting up the device.

If you purchased the device from a retailer, please contact them about an exchange.
