Diary of a Smart Home #2 - Gaurav
Smart locks have a wide range of benefits. From remote control over your front door to let trusted visitors into your home, to being notified if a loved one gets home safe and sound, there are an array of well-known benefits for investing in a smart lock. Well, they aren’t called ‘smart locks’ for nothing.
But there are many other perks to investing in a smart lock that can help to make life run that little bit easier. We’ll be exploring the range of benefits in our ‘Diary of a Smart Home’ series, and in this blog post, we’ll be finding out how young professional, Gaurav, utilises his smart lock to help keep up with his fitness goals.

Working a 9-5 (or more like a 6-9 on some days) means finding time to focus on myself can sometimes be a struggle. I got back into running again in 2020, as it was a way for me to easily switch off from work and all the other things going on in the world.
And now that working from home has become the norm for myself and my colleagues, I’ve really been able to get into a routine with my running and walking my dog, often going running twice a day due to a non-existent commute to my spare room. But that’s not to say that convenience still isn’t a high priority on my list, even with my newfound work flexibility.
And now as I spend most of my working week at home, I made the decision to invest in smart home gadgets to not only stay up to date with the latest technology, but also to make my day run a little bit smoother.
When making some home improvements to my property, I decided to invest in smart security. I’ve always been very conscious of protecting my home, and even more so when I have to leave the house twice a week for work commitments. I now have a smart alarm, outdoor security cameras and I have recently treated myself to a smart lock, which has been a huge benefit for my running regime.
One of the many reasons for investing in a smart lock was because having to go for a jog, walk or run with bulky keys in my pocket was ruining the experience for me. Not only that, but the worry that comes with having to keep them safe on my run was starting to make me enjoy my fitness sessions less and less. Which is why a smart lock was next on my list to continue building my own ‘smart home’.
I’ve had my Yale smart lock for about six months now, and it’s helped make many areas of my life more convenient, including my fitness goals. I now leave the house with my virtual key on my smart watch, meaning I can listen to music or a podcast, pay for any last-minute essentials on my route and even open my front door with just one tap.
What’s great about my smart lock is that it also utilises Yale’s handy Access app, which allows me to have the control to remotely unlock my door if my friends arrive at my house before I can get back from work (thanks to rush hour traffic!).
I’ve created and shared virtual keys with my partner, parents and some trusted friends to allow them to come and go as they please. And over the past few months my smart lock has been a brilliant gadget to always be in the know over my home’s security, all whilst using the intuitive Access app. I can even check that my door is secure from anywhere, giving me peace of mind when I need it most.
