  • What application should I use with the Yale Smart Outdoor Camera?

    Download the Yale Home App from the App store or Google Play depending on your device.


    Once you have downloaded the Yale Home app you will need to click on create an account or sign in if you already have an account.

  • Can I use my Apple Watch with the Yale Smart Outdoor Camera?

    Yes, you can! While your Apple Watch won’t show the live video feed, it will mirror notifications from the Yale Home app on your iPhone. That means you can get alerts on your watch — including a thumbnail notification — whenever motion is detected.

  • How do I install and setup the Yale Smart Outdoor Camera?

    The Yale Smart Outdoor Camera needs to be wall mounted with the supplied fittings. Once the Camera has been setup with the Yale Home app, you can view the physical installation instructions in the device settings:

    • Open the Yale Home app.
    • From the dashboard, tap on the Camera.
    • Tap the Settings icon from the top right corner.
    • Scroll down to Installation Guide and select.

  • Can the Yale Smart Outdoor Camera run on battery or mains power?

    Yes, the Yale Smart Outdoor Camera features a built-in 6500 mAh rechargeable battery, which can be charged using the included USB-C cable.

    For continuous power, the camera can also be connected to a mains supply using the Yale Outdoor USB Cable or powered sustainably with the Yale Solar Panel Charger — both available separately.

  • What subscriptions services are available for the Yale Smart Outdoor Camera?

    Cloud Recording*

    Video is captured and automatically routed to a secure cloud server, where it is saved for 30 days

    AI Motion Detection*

    Advanced AI-based camera analytics enables the cameras to differentiate between the motion of people, pets, vehicles, and delivery packages in real-time,  the user can choose to enable or disable notifications when motion is detected from these specific groups.

Everyday Use

  • How do I capture videos or images on my Yale Smart Outdoor Camera?

    1. Event-Based Recordings
    The Camera automatically records video clips when motion is detected. These recordings are triggered based on your motion detection settings. To adjust these:

    • Open the Yale Home app
    • Go to your Camera settings
    • Customize the motion detection and recording preferences

    2. Manual Capture via Live View
    You can also manually record video or take snapshots while viewing the live feed:

    • Open the Yale Home app
    • Navigate to the Live View page for your Camera
    • Tap Record to save a video clip
    • Tap Snapshot to capture an image
  • Where are videos and images stored?

    For all event-based recordings, the videos will be stored in the units built-in flash memory and accessed via the activity feed in the Yale Home app. If you have a Yale subscription plan, then the recordings will be securely stored in the Yale cloud instead of the units local flash memory.

    For on-demand video recordings or image snapshots, all media is stored in the mobile phone's storage and can be accessed through the built-in media gallery in the mobile operating system.

  • Can I change the video resolution for live streaming and recorded clips?

    To change the video resolution in the Yale Home app:

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. Tap on your Camera from the dashboard.
    3. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner.
    4. Scroll down to Video Settings and tap Video Quality.
    5. Choose your preferred resolution:
      • High (1080p) for better image quality
      • Medium (720p) to save bandwidth or storage
  • Can I adjust the length of video clips recorded when motion is detected?

    Yes, you can customize the clip length in the Yale Home app. Here's how:

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. Tap your Camera from the dashboard.
    3. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner.
    4. Scroll down to Motion Detection Settings and tap Clip Length.
    5. Use the slider to adjust the clip length between 10 and 60 seconds.
  • I'm receiving a lot of notifications from my Camera. How can I adjust the settings to ensure I only receive necessary alerts?

    You can customize the motion detection settings in the Yale Home app:

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. Tap your Camera from the dashboard.
    3. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner.
    4. Scroll down to Motion Detection Settings.

    From here, you can:

    • Enable Human-only detection
    • Adjust motion detection sensitivity
    • Configure the motion detection zone
    • Set the Motion Detection Re-trigger Time (between 10–60 seconds) to reduce frequent alerts

    These adjustments can help you minimize unnecessary notifications while still keeping your home secure.

Troubleshooting

  • I have forgotten my user / account password for the Yale Home app?

    You can reset your password in the app by choosing Forgot Password from the login screen, or alternatively- via the online account management portal.

  • Smart Outdoor Camera: Rapid Battery Drain

    Adjusting the following device settings to match the installation environment can significantly extend battery life. You’ll find these options in the device settings within the Yale Home app.

    1.  Motion Detection Settings
      • Avoid enabling “All Other Motion Detection” in high-traffic areas.
      • Use “Human Detection” to reduce unnecessary triggers.
    2.  Motion Sensitivity
      • Lower sensitivity to reduce detection range and limit frequent activations.
    3.  Detection Zone
      • Exclude busy areas (e.g., roads, footpaths) using the zone editor to prevent unwanted triggers.
    4.  Clip Length
      • Set shorter recording durations (10–60 seconds).
      • Enable “End Recording When Motion Stops” to avoid extended recordings.
    5.  Motion Re-Trigger Time
      • Add a delay (10–60 seconds) between recordings to reduce battery use during continuous motion.
  • How do I reboot my Yale Smart Outdoor Camera?

    You can reboot the device in two ways:

    • Via the Yale Home App
    • Directly on the Camera

    Reboot via the Yale Home App

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. From the dashboard, tap on your Camera.
    3. Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner.
    4. Scroll down to Utilities and select Restart Device.

    Once restarted, the Camera will blink green, indicating a successful reboot.

    Reboot via the Camera

    1. Locate the small button next to the power button under the rubber cover at the bottom of the camera.
    2. Use a security pin or needle to press this small button for one second, then release.
    3. The camera will reboot, and the LED will blink green, indicating a successful reboot.
  • How do I perform a hardware reset of the Yale Smart Outdoor Camera?

    To Perform a Hardware Reset:

    1. Under the rubber cover on the underside of the camera, find the ON/OFF button.
    2. Press and hold this button for about 10 seconds until you hear a beep.
    3. Release the button; the camera LED will flash green and red in sequence.
    4. A steady blinking green LED indicates the camera has successfully reset and rebooted.

    Important: After a reset, the camera can only be set up again if it’s removed from the original owner’s account - as per the next steps below. This prevents stolen devices from being re-registered.

    To Remove the Camera from Your Yale Home Account:

    1. Open the Yale Home app.
    2. From the dashboard, tap on your Camera.
    3. Tap the Settings icon (top right corner).
    4. Scroll down to Utilities and select Remove Device.
    5. Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Yale Smart Outdoor Camera Not Powering On After Battery Recharge

    If you've recharged the battery in your Yale Smart Outdoor Camera and the device still doesn't power on, a reboot may be required. Normally, the Camera powers on automatically once the battery is charged. However, in some cases, a manual reboot is necessary.

    To reboot your Camera:

    1. Locate the small button next to the power button under the rubber cover at the bottom of the camera.
    2. Use a security pin or needle to press this small button for one second, then release.
    3. The camera will reboot, and the LED will blink green, indicating a successful reboot.
