Yale is here to answer all your burning questions about Smart Locks.

With the increasing popularity of smart homes, you may be considering whether or not to invest in a smart lock for your flat, apartment, or house. Yale is here to help with this important decision! Here is our list of the most important questions to consider when searching for the perfect smart front door lock to protect your home.

Question #1: How secure are smart locks compared to traditional locks?

Traditional locks typically rely on physical keys, which can be lost, stolen, or duplicated. Smart locks, on the other hand, often use more secure digital authentication methods such as PIN codes, apps and more, which can be set, controlled and managed by you. Many smart locks offer remote access capabilities, allowing homeowners to lock or unlock their doors remotely via smartphone apps for better control over access to their house.

With 64% of Europeans believing that a smart lock would increase their home's security, our smart door lock features a detailed Activity Feed, Smart Alerts and notifications within the intuitive Yale Home app. These features will help you keep track of when the door to your home opens and closes, as well as any kids returning home from school. The Yale Linus® Smart Lock L2 also comes with built-in Wi-Fi, allowing you to benefit from remote functionalities, like being able to check that you locked your door when you are on the move right out of the box!

To enhance the protection of your home by providing you with more information sent directly from your lock.

Question #2: What are the benefits of a smart lock

A smart lock enhances all the benefits of a traditional lock, but its main benefit is that it ensures that you can live your life key-free, while also giving you smarter access options for any door you can use to enter your home! With one of the biggest purchasing drivers for these devices being the hassle of losing keys, Linus® L2 brings you plenty of keyless access options!

You can easily bring the magic convenience of keyless smart home access to your home by sharing virtual keys or codes with trusted individuals. A smart lock will also allow you to automatically unlock your door as you approach your home, to avoid having to fumble for your keys in the rain. The same benefits can be applied to locking, so that when you leave home all you need to do is close the door behind you and you can set the lock to automatically lock.

The next generation of our flagship Yale Smart Lock now lets you easily schedule your device to lock or unlock at certain times of the day. For example, in the evening you can set all of the smart locks in your house to lock, meaning that as you go to bed you can be certain that the house has automatically made itself secure. This simple-to-use feature allows you to create a personalised home security schedule for your lock to follow for additional security and convenience.

Integration with smart home ecosystems allows for seamless automation, such as automatically unlocking the door when arriving home or triggering security cameras when the door is unlocked. The new Yale Dot® accessory also offers convenient keyless access using NFC technology that allows you to tap your phone to lock and unlock your doors.

Question #3: How easy is it to install?

When considering if a smart lock is right for them, some people might be put off by the idea of having to fit and get used to a whole new lock, but the installation of these devices couldn’t be simpler!

Linus® L2 offers an easy installation experience right out of the box and can adapt to most cylinders/locks. The size of the device has also been reduced but Yale still ensured that it fits over larger keys to offer consumers more convenient and faster installation options. With Linus® L2, no special tools or drilling are needed for installation, everything required is provided in the box!

And the same convenience can be applied if you are renting! Typically renters are not allowed to make many modifications to their homes. This issue can be avoided as the lock can be quickly mounted on your door with no modifications needed and removed without leaving any marks. To make the set-up process simpler and get you up and running in minutes.

Question #4: What happens if I lose my smartphone, forget my access code or the power goes out?

With so many of the features being closely tied to a smartphone or the Yale Home app, you might be nervous about what could happen should you lose your phone. Well, fear not! You could always use a keypad and code to enter your home, and if all else fails gain entry using a set of backup keys. If you were worried about a lost or stolen phone compromising your home security it is extremely easy to delete registered devices from your Yale account.

Additionally, one owner can be removed by another, for example, one parent could remove their spouse or any of their kids if their phone was lost or stolen. These features provide you with greater peace of mind and control over your home security.

If you were to forget your access code then there are plenty of alternative ways to lock/unlock your device. Outside of virtual keys or app access, which would let you in at the touch of a button, accessories such as the Yale Smart Keypad, or the new Yale Dot® can ensure that you enjoy a smarter, more secure experience when it comes to locking and unlocking your home.

With Linus® Smart Lock L2, you can tap the Yale Dot® with your phone to unlock or lock your door, without opening the Yale Home app first. This means that you can place a Yale Dot® on the stairwell and open your lock as you arrive on your floor for even more convenience. This means that if you forget your access code then there’s no problem! You can just tap your device and gain quick access to your home.

Question #5: What happens if the power goes out or the Wi-Fi is down?

If your power were to go out, the good news is that you don't need electricity for Linus® L2 to work! The smart lock is powered by the rechargeable battery supplied in the box. This battery does need to be removed to recharge using a USB-C charge cable, but so long as the battery is always charged you should never be stuck for access. Or, if your internet connection is lost, you can still open your door with Bluetooth or using a physical key.

Question #6: Can it interact with other devices in your home?

The best smart door locks will be part of a compatible ecosystem and can easily work with third-party devices. Linus® L2 is designed to give you the freedom to design the perfect smart lock experience for you by seamlessly integrating with the entire Yale Smart Security
